Who is Thomas Edward

He's a male survivor like many others.  He started this ministry in 2001.  Thomas understood the frustration of trying to find safe and effective help in the faith community when dealing with the subject of male sexual abuse.  No one wants to address it.

Thomas remembers his abuse starting around age 6 into his teenage years.  He developed coping and defensive mechanisms for dealing with the abuse by ignoring, denying, repressing until the fateful day 15 years later when a movie trigger the repressed memories of sexual abuse, torture and manipulation.  His world began to spiral towards suicidal inclinations.  No one would have believed it, not from Thomas!  He was a loved praise and worship leader, supporter of the underground church in other countries,  young adult bible teacher, Big brother mentor, men's ministry leader, martial arts instructor.  None of which mattered when the guilt, shame and pain of the sexual abuse  took  hold.

When he asked for assistance in the faith community, he received rejection, condemnation and was told that being more spiritual was the key to alleviating the pain.  Pray more, read more and be more spiritual.  He quickly transitioned to deep dark depression and hopelessness.  Until the fateful night when he decided to take his life and God intervened with the words and care of a friend.

After that day when the healing started Thomas sought to create a healing path filled two disicplines, biblical principles and psychological insights to begin healing the pain of the sexual abuse.  If you ask him if recovery is possible, he will tell you "Yes! Everyday  I experience recovery because it's a life process!

In 2008, Thomas shared his retreat workshop program with a counselor from Steve Arteburns New Life Ministries.  Impressed by the retreat and what Thomas was already  doing he  advised him to continue his work in this area, so that when the faith community began to awake to the seriousness of this issue and it's affect on Christian men and their families a resource would be ready and available.  In 2009 Healing Broken began to go public on the web.

Today Thomas continues operating Healing Broken Men while working a full time job, caring for a terminal relative, being active in the church, organizing regional praise worship conferences, giving GET UNSTUCK presentations, writing books, hosting radio shows, speaking and studying for his Master's in Psychology and Counseling. He quite passionate about growing the HBM family!
